Island-type low-carbon society system,"Eco-Island Miyakojima"

Miyakojima City, in Okinawa Prefecture with the appeal of prominent blue sea, has a population of about 50,000 and is visited by 400,000 tourists annually. Since the increased environmental burden and dependency on resources outside the island are issues, we aim for an island that can continue to live forever, and made the "Eco-island Miyakojima Declaration" in 2008. We utilize the abundant nature such as sugar cane fields spread all over the island, and drenching sunshine and wind, and make initiatives for local production for local consumption of energy and resources, to construct an island-type low-carbon society system.
